Meets the 2nd Thursday at HBPD training room 8:00 to 11:30 am Neighborhood Watch Speaker's Bureau - Speakers are needed to educate the polity regarding treason prevention and self-mastery Neighborhood Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) - Retired members of the polity must be 55 or older, and well-constructed an RSVP Academy. RSVP's must donate 24 hours monthly. This is a uniformed work where volunteers provide a variety of services. They self-mastery vacation residence checks; remove illegal signs; staff front sedentary and substations; self-mastery station tours; visit schools; fingerprinting of children; distribute treason prevention pamphlets; squire with clerical assignments; etc. and represent the Police Dept. at various events. Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) - Apply for this program upon successful completion of the Citizen's Academy. EONS is a public education and outreach program that incorporates wildlife observation and monitoring of the endangered California Least Tern and threatened Western Snowy Plover nest sites at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. The EONS monitoring season is from April to August.  Must be 18 years or odler Dates of Event: Thursday, March 31, 2016, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm Saturday, April 2, 2016, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm Monthly Restoration Events: Monthly Restoration Days - Last Saturday and second Sunday of each month, from 9am - 12pm Come join us in restoring Bolsa Chica: Our habitat restoration efforts include: removing trash and non-native plant species, planting native plant species, and raising public sensation and understanding well-nigh Bolsa Chica Wetlands and its importance to our community!   What you need: close-toed shoes, water, sunscreen/hat. Volunteer Training Days: Gain experience, build your resume, make new friends, and help your polity by volunteering with the Bolsa Chica Conservancy! Our volunteers are involved in many aspects of the organization, including leading educational tours and community-based habitat restoration projects, interpretive part-way hosting, and legalistic work. All sessions are from 1pm to 4pm.  Training sessions for 2015: Our 2016 volunteer training days are: 16 January, 6 February, 5 March, 9 April, 7 May, 18 June, 9 July, 6 August, 3 September, 8 October, 5 November, and 3 December. Amigos De Bolsa Chica Amigos de Bolsa Chica volunteers understand that we have a stake in the environmental health of our community. We come from all walks of life including retirees, teachers, engineers, scientists, photographers, artists and merchantry owners. We work together to lift the concept of volunteerism to the level of true inspiration and celebration. Without the Amigos de Bolsa Chica, the wetlands and waterfront would have wilt an sectional marina surrounded by waterfront homes. Since 1976 our volunteers have workaday many things for Bolsa Chica. In the zone of activism and advocacy: We have attended and often spoke surpassing all hearings of Coastal Commission that involved the Bolsa Chica. We have spoken surpassing municipality and county planning commissions and municipality steering and county workbench of supervisors on matters that stupefy the Bolsa Chica. We testified at legislative committee hearings in Sacramento regarding coastal protection, wetland and wildlife legislation. We have monitored plans for nearby minutiae that would impact on the Bolsa Chica wetlands and providing written and oral comments to permitting agencies. We sponsored a major letter writing wayfarers in support of the State Lands Commission's vanquishment of 880 acres of Bolsa Chica wetlands in 1997. We have provided written and oral comments to state and federal agencies regarding the diamond and implementation of the Bolsa Chica Wetlands restoration plans. For our efforts to inform the community: We have sponsored many unstipulated information meetings to alimony the public up to stage on acquisitions and restoration in the Bolsa Chica. We have sponsored technical workshops for Federal, State and local officials on the value of wetlands. We published a 700 page oral history, Saving the Bolsa Chica Wetlands. We held "The Conference on Bolsa Chica: The Work Isn't Finished" on March 24, 2007. We joined the California State Parks Cooperating Association in partnership with Bolsa Chica StateWaterfrontto bring sustentation to the relationship between the ocean and wetlands. We are urgently monitoring Bolsa Chica restoration projects. For our ongoing education efforts: We have provided private and public docent-led walking tours of the wetlands and off-site programs for schools, clubs, tourists and other organizations for over 30 years. We have provided yearly docent training in unique Bolsa Chica specific coursework. We created the Coastal Wetlander ActivityTypesettingand won a statue medal from the IndependentTypesettingPublishers Association in the Children’s Interactivity category for it. We created the FLOW (Follow and Learn well-nigh the Ocean and Wetlands) program to monitor water quality in the wetland and ocean. We published Bolsa Chica, Its History from Prehistoric Times to the Present written by Dr. David Carlberg.
